Sclerotherapy Treatment for Spider and Varicose Veins
Spider and varicose veins are common in many people, aging from young to old. These unattractive veins can occur in different areas of the body, and while they do carry blood, they are not deemed necessary in general body functioning.
Sclerotherapy treatment is a non-surgical for the removal of thread veins. Sclerotherapy treatment is a simple injection method used to treat these unnecessary veins. Using a small needle, a solution is carefully injected into the veins irritating the inner vein walls causing them to swell and close up. This prevents further flow of blood through the vessels. The body’s own immune system then clears away the dead vessels. Treatment times vary from person to person, but most often more than one treatment may be required. In compliance with national health and safety standards, Sclerotherapy is always administered by our Certified RN (Registered Nurse).
What does it feel like?
The sclerosing agent is used in tiny amounts and causes a brief tingling sensation as the agent enters the vessels.
What happens after sclerotherapy treatment?
For a day or two after treatment the injection sites look rather like insect bites, but these subside quickly. Small bruises will be visible at the injection sites but will fade within a week or two. For one or two weeks the veins will probably appear more prominent than before treatment but will then usually begin to fade and continue to do so for up to eight weeks or longer.
How many treatments will I need?
On average each vein or cluster will need about three treatments for a complete removal, but this number will vary according to the extent of the condition. As the injected solution travels through the vein network, this will mean that not every thread vein in a cluster has to be injected.
How long does a treatment take?
A single sclerotherapy treatment takes between 30 and 60 minutes with an interval between treatments of 4 to 6 weeks.
