Cawthra Mulock was born in 1915 in Toronto and grew up in an eminent family. Her great-aunt gave her father a majority of the family’s estate, which he managed with his wife. Her father, known as “the boy millionaire,” was responsible for building the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto’s theater district, and he became a cabinet minister.
