Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is common and causes facial redness, flushing, thread veins and spots. Rosacea is a skin disorder that most often affects the forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin. Groups of capillaries close to the surface of the skin become dilated resulting in blotchy red areas with small bumps and sometimes, pimples. Rosacea redness can come and go, but eventually may become permanent. Rosacea skin tissue can swell and thicken and may be tender and sensitive to the touch.

The inflammation of Rosacea can be confused with Acne, but the two are quite different. The spots and inflammation can be controlled with medication. The redness, veins and flushing can be controlled with laser treatment. We treat the redness and broken veins of Rosacea with Intense Pulse Light using Laser machine. This delivers a pulse of red light to the broken blood vessels enabling them to heal up and fade away. Also known as IPL or Photo Facial, this treatment offers superior results when treating a whole network of tiny facial veins and the associated flushed look of the skin. There is usually no downtime with this procedure, and it typically requires 4 to 6 treatments. People with mild to severe rosacea really appreciate the outcome, noting 80% to 90% overall reduction in facial redness.

How does it work?

It is believed that IPL has two actions that help in rosacea. Firstly, red thread veins absorb the light energy, this makes them hot. This damage encourages the body to reabsorb them, improving appearance. Secondly, the light energy warms the collagen fibres in the skin this stimulates new collagen and collagen remodelling, this improves the support of the small blood vessels which helps to delay the development of more thread veins.
